Create sweet, colorful homemade hard candy with just a few ingredients, perfect for gifts and celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine the sugar, water, corn syrup, and cream of tartar in a medium saucepan.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring consistently until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  3. Once dissolved, stop stirring and allow the mixture to boil until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
  4. Carefully remove from heat, then add the vanilla extract and any food coloring, stirring just enough to mix.
  5. Quickly pour the hot candy mixture onto a greased baking sheet and allow it to cool completely.
  6. Once cooled, break the candy into pieces or cut into shapes.

Notes

Use a reliable candy thermometer for best results, and avoid stirring after the sugar dissolves to prevent crystallization.
